In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
The “offense” (σκάνδαλον, skandalon) of the cross was the “curse” brought down upon the one who hung there (Gal 3:13). Jesus’ substitution was unacceptable to lawkeeping Jews, for it left them nothing by which they could earn at least part of their own salvation. If there could have been a kind of Christianity that included circumcision and excluded the cross, there would have been no conflict. Neither would there have been salvation.
